Obtaining a new US passport can be challenging, especially if you're unsure of the process or where to apply. The situation can become even more overwhelming if you need a passport quickly.

Fortunately, expedited services are available to help you obtain your passport in 2-3 weeks or even within 24-48 hours, depending on how urgently you need your travel document.

Before you utilize expedited services, you will need to provide proof of travel you need for rush processing. Here is a list of reasons that may qualify you for expedited service:

If you answered yes to all three questions, you can now begin gathering the necessary forms and supporting documents to submit to the expeditor.

The required forms will differ between adults and children, but the supporting documents will be largely the same. Let’s start with the application needed to apply for a new U.S. passport.

What is Needed to Expedite?

Form DS-11 must be completed for both adults and children applying for a new U.S. passport. This form collects specific information about the applicant, including:

• Proof of United States Citizenship
• Original or Certified Copy of Birth Certificate
• Original Copy of Certificate of Naturalization
• One Passport Photo
• Mailing Address
• Parent Information (if the application is for a child)
• Height, Hair Color, and Eye Color

Additionally, if you are applying on behalf of a child, you must submit Form DS-3053: Statement of Consent.The absent parent/guardian must complete this form if he/she is not present to sign the passport application for the child. This document will only be valid if it is signed in front of a notary.

Passport Photos

To ensure your application stands out, please include a recent photo taken within the last six months. Remember, only one photo per applicant is allowed for best results.

Children

The parent or guardian submitting the passport application must complete this form if the other parent or guardian is unavailable to do so.

There can be various reasons for a parent's absence, and proof must be provided. Here are some examples of acceptable proof that the other parent is unavailable:

• Protection Order against Parent or Guardian
• Death Certificate
• Parent Unknown
• Adopted Papers indicating on one parent

Gather the supporting documents for the passport application. The required documents are the same for both children and adults. If a document is necessary and a child does not possess it, the parents must provide their own versions.

For instance, if a child lacks a state ID or driver's license, the parents must submit copies of their own identification.

Valid Photo ID

Please provide a copy of both sides of the identification for both parents or guardians. The valid ID must be at least six months old. If a driver's license, state-issued ID, or military ID is not available, a supplemental ID can be used. Additionally, include two Letters of Authorization.
